Bring a Book / Buy a Book

The National Software Centre in conjunction with Cork Simon Community have organised a “Bring a book / Buy a book” charity event.  Why not clear out your bookshelves of old books and fill them with new books at recession beating prices whilst helping a worthy charity.

“Tonight and every night of the year, Cork Simon will provide 115 people with somewhere safe and warm to sleep, with hot meals and with support to address the issues that contributed to them becoming homeless -  115 people who would otherwise have nowhere to go.  Cork Simon’s services include: a Soup Run going out onto the streets 365 nights of the year providing hot food and blankets to people sleeping rough and supporting them to access other services; a Day & Outreach Team working closely with the Shelter team and Soup Run to support people sleeping rough, living in squats or other unsuitable accommodation. The team facilitates access to a specialised health team of doctors, nurses and counsellors; 24-hour Emergency accommodation for 44 people at our Shelter on Anderson's Quay; long-term, high-support accommodation in 5 houses providing homes to 44 men and women with physical and mental health needs; 27 Independent-living apartments at locations throughout the city.  Cork Simon also supports people to access a range of training, education, life-skills & back-to-work programmes and supports people back to employment.”
