Thursday May 6th 2010
The NSC (National Software Centre) Campus in Mahon Cork recently raised €1,000 for Cork Simon. Organising a Bring a book/Buy a book event the NSC encouraged its tenants to tidy up their attics and donate their books for sale at the event. With over 35 companies from the NSC participating and 200 people donating their well thumbed tomes for sale it was an extremely worthwhile event. The event which was held in the NSC Atrium, a great meeting place at the heart of the NSC Campus, was well received within the high-tech companies that make up the campus.
Speaking at the cheque handover, Shemas Eivers, Director of the NSC Campus, said he was delighted to be associated with the recent NSC initiative. He said “We are delighted with the response and generosity of the tenants to the Bring a book event we ran recently. It is great to be able to support the work of Cork Simon in these tough times and this event allowed people to give something and get something back in return so everyone benefitted which is always a great result.”
Cork Simon works with men and women who are homeless, offering housing and support in their journey back to independent or supported living. Cork Simon depends on the generosity of the public and of businesses in Cork to maintain the 115 beds it provides every night. Receiving the cheque for Cork Simon Collette Kelleher, Director Cork Simon said “Not only do initiatives like these raise badly needed funds for Cork Simon, they also help raise awareness within the business community of our work. It’s so encouraging to see a group of companies like those in the NSC working together to organise a book event. Their belief in the people we support has resulted in a great outcome for Cork Simon. Thank you.”
